Aiming to defend its Pikes Peak hill climb world record set in 2012, Hyundai has renewed its partnership with Rhys Millen Racing for 2013, and will field two cars this year.
“We’re certainly proud to renew our successful partnership with Rhys Millen Racing to take on the unique challenge of international motorsports known as Pikes Peak,” said Steve Shannon, VP of marketing for Hyundai Motor America.
The race to the summit of Pikes Peak will take place on June 30, 2013, and will include an all-new unlimited class rear-drive racecar from Hyundai along with a production-based Genesis Coupe model which set last year’s 9:46.164 record time.
Under the hood of the new race car, the engine will source most of its major parts from Hyundai’s Lambda family of engines, and is estimated to make around 900 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. The racecar chassis will be covered in a Genesis Coupe-esque body, and it will be piloted by Rhys Millen.
